Lilacs & Love - The Heart of It

Before Winterberry Hearth had a name, it had a feeling.

It lived in a small backyard on North Clinton Street.
A swing set that leaned with time.
A weathered little garage where my grandfather kept his tools.
And beside it all a large lilac tree that bloomed every spring, filling the air with a scent I will never forget.

That backyard wasn’t big, but it held everything that mattered.
Love. Safety. Laughter. Quiet joy.

I remember swinging higher and higher, closing my eyes, imagining myself floating into a cloud of lilacs wrapped in peace, held without question. Even now, decades later, that feeling remains.

Inside that modest house were old radiators along the walls, a kitchen that always felt warm, and a living room filled with patience and grace. There were small messes, spilled milk, melted crayons on a hot stove and never fear. Only gentleness. Only love.

When I was missing, I was never lost.
I was always downstairs curled up in my grandfather’s recliner, tucked into their bed, held where I belonged.

Those moments shaped me.

They taught me that life doesn’t need to be loud to be meaningful.
That love doesn’t rush.
That presence is the greatest offering we can give one another.

Lilacs & Love is where that feeling lives.

And Winterberry Hearth…
is my way of carrying it forward.

In the warmth of a kitchen.
In the scent of something familiar.
In the quiet rituals that bring us back to ourselves.

A place to slow down.
A place to remember.
A place to return.
